Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Armando Broja were all absent from the list of players travelling with Chelsea to the USA for their pre-season tour this week

Reece James and Wesley Fofana were among the notable absentees from the Chelsea squad travelling to the USA for their pre-season tour. Armando Broja is another player missing from the list of players flying out to America after the Blues confirmed their 29-man squad.

Chelsea are set to face Wrexham in their first pre-season friendly on Wednesday, July 19. Mauricio Pochettino has had just two-and-a-half weeks to work with his new squad as preparations ramp up ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Angelo Gabriel and Diego Moreira are both included in the squad along with returning England Under-21 international Levi Colwill after his success at the European Championships. Ian Maatsen and Andrey Santos have both been selected for the tour, while Callum Hudson-Odoi has been left out after Fulham had a bid for the winger rejected this week.

The 22-year-old defender suffered a serious hamstring injury towards the end of the season and he is still working on his recovery. Badiashile is targeting the start of the new campaign for when he returns to action as he continues to do gym work behind the scenes to ensure just that.

Wesley Fofana was omitted from the squad after suffering a knee injury - with the Frenchman set to be assessed this week. Reece James reported that he was feeling unwell and did not travel with the squad as a precaution, Chelsea confirmed.
