Wolves's Boly 'chooses to spend time with family instead of Ivory Coast squad'

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Willy Boly has elected to spend the international break with family in France, despite earning his first call up to the Ivory Coast national team.

Boly, 28, is French-born but qualifies to play for the Ivory Coast through his parents, and has represented France at youth level but has never registered an appearance for the world champions.

The left sided centre half was due to link up with his Ivory Coast team mates, including Premier League stars Wilfried Zaha, Nicolas Pepe and Serge Aurier, ahead of tonight's game against Benin, but it appears he will miss that game as well as Tuesday's game against Tunisia.

According to the Express and Star, Boly will instead spend his break with family in France. Ibrahim Kamara had called up the Wolves defender as another option to bolster his defence.

The Wolves stopper has enjoyed a successful spell in England since joining Wolves on a loan deal in 2017. His performances in the Championship saw him earn a permanent move to the West Midlands club.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo knew Boly from their time together at Porto, and it is believed that the 28-year-old was initially hesitant about joining the club, until a phone call from Nuno gave the defender all the motivation he needed to seal a switch.

Boly has scored 7 goals in 87 appearances for the club, and has played an integral role in Nuno's back three.
