Today would have been the birthday of the legendary former Soviet Union goalkeeper Lev Yashin, the only goalkeeper to have won the Ballon d'Or.
Yashin stayed at Dynamo Moscow for 21 seasons and played in 326 matches. He won 5 Soviet Top League trophies. He helped Soviet Union win the 1960 UEFA European Football Championship.
France Football magazine announced on 19th 2019 that a Ballon d'Or award for goalkeepers will be handed out for the first time this year, known as The Yashin Award, a tribute to Yashin. The trophy will be presented in Paris on December 2.
