Match Report
Timo Werner scored two goals tonight and gave Chelsea a fantastic start. However, Magomed Ozdoev rifled an unerring strike into the top corner in the 94th minute, which made the Blues surrender the top spot in their Champions League group stage.
In the first half, Timo Werner gave the blues a goal lead only 90 seconds after the match started, but Zenit St Petersburg's quickfire goals by Claudinho and Sardar Azmoun in three minutes just before half-time as the Russian club took a surprise lead.
In the 62nd minute, Romelu Lukaku scored his first goal in 5 weeks since his ankle broke, it also helped the Champions League holders equalize the game, and Timo Werner's classy solo goal in the last five minutes looked to have won the match.
But substitute Magomed Ozdoev's tremendous goal in the stoppage time denied Chelsea from snatching their three points. It also rejected Chelsea the luxury of first place in Group H.
The match kicked off in sub-zero temperatures, and Thomas Tuchel's side will face a seeded team in the last-16. Teams like Bayern Munich or Real Madrid are their potential rivals.
