Match Report

Danilho Doekhi struck twice for Union, either side of a brilliant strike from Luis Diaz, while Ilyas Ansah and Harry Kane both saw goals ruled out at either end, before the English forward found a late leveller in the capital.

Ansah saw an early goal disallowed for offside after a swift VAR check, but Doekhi put the hosts ahead just before the half-hour mark when he turned Janik Haberer's cross toward goal and Manuel Neuer failed to keep out the tame effort.

Bayern were largely frustrated in the first half, but found an equaliser through Diaz. He did well to keep Josip Stanisic's pass in play before beating Frederik Ronnow from an unlikely angle.

The Colombian then fluffed his lines after being played through on goal, completely missing the target while one-on-one with Ronnow, while Kane also saw a goal ruled out for offside before the break.

Vincent Kompany's side looked more dangerous in the second half, but struggled to create many clear-cut chances. Michael Olise went closest in the early stages, but Ronnow was able to deny the winger's near-post strike.

Union seemed to have clinched a shock win when Doekhi slammed the ball past Neuer after Kane's clearance from Josip Juranovic's free-kick fell kindly for the defender, but the Bayern forward made amends at the other end when he headed Tom Bishof's cross past Ronnow.

Data Debrief: Kane ruins Doekhi's delight

Kompany will be frustrated that his side's winning run has come to an end, but a draw was the least Union deserved against the reigning champions.

Although Bayern produced 1.41 expected goals (xG) to Union's 0.85, they produced the same number of shots (12) and shots on target (four) as their counterparts.

It was an impressive performance from Doekhi, who scored from both of his shots and won five of his seven duels, including all four aerial battles.

Nevertheless, Bayern are now undefeated in their last 19 games in the Bundesliga; their last longer unbeaten streak was from December 2019 to September 2020, a run of 21 games.
