Borussia Dortmund have announced plans to open their first official International Academy in Africa, with Ghana chosen as the host country for the landmark project.

The BVB International Academy Ghana is scheduled to launch in February 2026, marking a major step in the Bundesliga club’s global expansion and long term commitment to youth development beyond Europe.

The academy will offer a structured development system for boys and girls aged six to 18, following Borussia Dortmund’s globally recognized training philosophy. Players will be enrolled across both elite and recreational pathways, ensuring access to high level coaching while also creating opportunities for young footballers who simply want to learn and enjoy the game in a professional environment.

By bringing its academy model to Ghana, Dortmund aim to tap into one of Africa’s richest footballing regions while contributing to grassroots growth and player education. The initiative is expected to provide local coaches with access to modern training methods and create a clear pathway for talented players to progress within the BVB global network, reinforcing Ghana’s status as a key hub for football development on the continent.
