A hardcore Borussia Dortmund fan who went viral after rejecting a Champions League final ticket was gifted a free trip to watch his team against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu this week.
Matthias Peitz found a huge audience on TikTok in June after leaving an interviewer close to tears in a heartwarming moment in the build-up to the final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.
In an interview at a tube station with account 'Robdidtiktok', the supporter explained his journey to the game, and after revealing how much it would mean to him to be at the match, he was offered a ticket.
However, in a remarkable show of loyalty to the five friends he had travelled with, the supporter turned down the opportunity, leaving the interviewer in shock.
'I appreciate your ticket but all or no-one. But we're a group, we're friends if only I can see the game, it's not fair to my friends. But friendship...'
Peitz's selfless act was spotted by UEFA sponsor Heineken as part of their 'Real Hardcore Fans' campaign - and they sought to reward him by hosting him, with all of his friends this time, at the match they couldn't last season.
'At first I was very surprised,' Peitz told Mail Sport. 'We are very happy and thankful.
'It's great, it's a very kind and generous invitation for us, and we are very very happy to be here'.
Asked if he still stood by his original decision to turn down the ticket for Wembley, Peitz added: 'I don't regret it, it would have meant that I watch the game alone without my friends, and that's not what I wanted.
'I wanted to watch it with my mates, and that's what football is about - to watch it and have fun and enjoy it with your mates.
'For me it's a no-brainer, you go together or not'
Unfortunately for Matthias and his friends, the result didn't go as they would've hoped, with Madrid turning the game around in the second half in dramatic fashion - concluding in a 5-2 victory for Los Blancos.
