Dortmund second team manager Jan Siewert 'to become Huddersfield boss'

Borrusia Dortmund second team manager Jan Siewert is in advanced talks to replace David Wagner at Huddersfield Town, Sportsmail understands.

Negotiations are ongoing but there is a belief a deal can be struck that would see Siewert, 36, join on a long-term deal, staying even in the event of relegation.

Relatively unknown in England, Siewert has been in charge of Dortmund’s second side since July 2017, succeeding Daniel Farke who left to manage Norwich.

Huddersfield chairman Dean Hoyle has been aware of Siewert’s progress in Germany for the last two years having plucked Wagner from the same position at the German club in November 2015.

Mark Hudson will take charge of Huddersfield’s game against Manchester City on Sunday but Hoyle wants to name a new manager fairly soon in the period afterwards in the belief his side can still achieve survival.

Siewert is only young but has established a fine reputation as a promising coach. He managed Rot-Weiss Essen, in the fourth tier, and has worked with the Germany Under-17 and Under-18 teams.

Hoyle has tracked Siewert since he was assistant of Bochum’s first-team and manager of the Under-19s side in June 2017. He prefers an attacking style in the traditions of Dortmund.

German newspaper Bild have reported it will cost €300,000 (£265,000) to get Siewert out of his Dortmund deal.

Huddersfield have been conducting a thorough search for a new manager but want to maintain the philosophy that has brought such success. Players have been discussing potential candidates and Siewert’s name has featured prominently.
