Harry Kane breaks UCL record as staggering Bayern Munich form continues

Harry Kane made history as Bayern Munich reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 5-0 win on aggregate over Bayer Leverkusen.

Kane scored a brace as Bayern won the first leg 3-0 and he was also on target in the second leg, netting his side's opener as they beat Leverkusen 2-0. That goal means that Kane has become the first English player to ever score 10 goals in a Champions League campaign.

He also became the second Englishman to reach 50 goal contributions in the tournament when he assisted Alphonso Davies, with former Manchester United and Real Madrid star David Beckham the only other player to have reached the landmark.

"He was always going to score goals in this team," former Bayern midfielder Owen Hargreaves said on TNT Sports. "He's got [Joshua] Kimmich, he's got [Jamal] Musiala, he's got Thomas Muller, he's got [Kingsley] Coman, he's got [Michael] Olise...

"He can focus on scoring goals and he's probably the best in the world at it. The one thing you would say about Harry is he's getting assists as well. He helps create the second goal and I think he's a No.9 and a No.10 rolled into one.

"When he drops off now, Vincent [Kompany] knows the wingers have to make runs and I think it's a perfect blend. In Munich they've been amazed at how good he is and how humble he is. Everybody respects that. The most important thing is you've got to lead on the pitch and Harry does that."

Bayern are now set to meet Inter Milan in the quarter-finals after they beat Feyenoord in the last-16 and Kane is feeling confident about his side's chances of progressing. "To beat this team 5-0 [on aggregate] shows the type of team we are and the path we are on," he said.

"It's never easy to start with a 3-0 lead, but the intensity we showed, we had the better chances, we knew the game would open up in second half and we took our chances.

"We try not to listen to the noise too much, we know what we're capable of. This will only give us confidence performing against a top side."

When asked about his landmark goal, Kane added: "I know I've got 10 in the Champions League now which is a nice number to have, but hopefully a few more [goals] to go."
