Although the Premier League summer transfer window has already slammed shut, that hasn't stopped Liverpool being linked with players around Europe, with Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz the latest to be linked with a move to Anfield.

The 20-year-old has established himself as one of the best midfield talents in Europe over the last 12 months with some outstanding performances for Bayer Leverkusen.

The Germany international scored 20 goals in all competitions for the Bundesliga side last season, his best season to-date, which has seen him linked with a £91 million move to Liverpool in recent days.

But, how would Havertz fit into the current Liverpool lineup?

And, could he manage to displace Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson or Gini Wijnaldum?

We used Football Manager 2019 to have a bit of fun and see what would have happened if Liverpool had signed Havertz this summer.

But how much difference could Havertz make to Liverpool's performance in the 2019/20 season?

We inputted a £91 million future transfer into Football Manager 2019, added in all the latest transfers, manager changes, promotions and relegations, then simulated the 2019/20 season to see what could happen.

Here's what happened....

Kai Havertz's 2019/20 season for Liverpool

Here's Havertz's Liverpool season in more detail.

Havertz immediately established himself as a regular in the Liverpool first team, making 49 appearances in all competitions in 2019/20.

The 20-year-old was more of a provider than a goal scorer for the Reds, scoring four goals and registering seven assists in all competitions.

In fact, this assist figure should have been much higher, as the German created 71 chances throughout the season, with only Salah and Firmino creating more.

The midfielder was deployed mostly as a central midfield player, but actually produced his best performances as a number 10, his favoured position.

Overall, it was a great season for a player who is so young.
