Liverpool are still trying to thrash out a club-record transfer to bring Florian Wirtz to Anfield and Reds new boy Jeremie Frimpong has now set tongues wagging among fans

Liverpool new boy Jeremie Frimpong has sparked a frenzy among Reds supporters by sharing footage of him and Florian Wirtz linking up for Bayer Leverkusen as talks over a blockbuster transfer for the Germany star continue.

Frimpong, 24, became Liverpool's first summer signing earlier this month after the newly minted Premier League champions triggered a £30million release clause in his contract. And Wirtz, 22, is seemingly poised to follow him after setting his heart on a switch to Anfield.

Negotiations over what would be a British record transfer have been ongoing in recent weeks with Liverpool now the red-hot favourites to land the sought-after attacking midfielder.

And with talks now at an advanced stage, fans have flocked to social media after Frimpong posted a clip of him setting Wirtz up for a goal in a Bayer Leverkusen shirt.

One social media reshared the clip, saying: "Cannot wait to see what these lads cook up next season."

Another social media user dubbed the right-back as "agent Frimpong", while another said: "Frimpong posting comps with Wirtz in. He knows."

A well known Liverpool account added: "Frimpong on his Instagram. Looks like he’s just as excited to see Wirtz at Liverpool as us," complete with the eyes emoji.

Like Frimpong, Wirtz has caught the eye at Leverkusen over the last couple of years and is now widely regarded as one of Europe's most exciting talents. His capture would be regarded as a major coup for Liverpool, who are determined to build on their success in the Premier League under Arne Slot with a strong summer transfer window.

Leverkusen are understood to value Wirtz at a monstrous €150m (£127m). A deal is likely to be made for a lower amount, though, with Liverpool offering €134m (£113m) to their Bundesliga counterparts last week.

A breakthrough is expected soon with Wirtz making it clear he only desires a move to Liverpool despite rival interest from Bayern Munich.

The Reds are offering a guaranteed £100m for Wirtz, with the total package now likely to exceed the £115m that Chelsea paid to acquire Moises Caicedo, the former Brighton midfielder who was also linked with Liverpool at the time.

Talks regarding a deal for Milos Kerkez, the Bournemouth left-back, are also ongoing.
