Kompany personally requested Saibari signing, a rarity for Bayern in recent years

According to Munich newspaper citing German media outlet Absolut Fussball, Bayern's signing of Saibari was primarily driven by the strong request of head coach Kompany.

Saibari was not initially high on Bayern's internal transfer target list, as Munich initially preferred to look for a traditional winger. It was Kompany who strongly promoted the 25-year-old's name within the club and pushed for the transfer after speaking with the player.

The background of this deal is quite unusual. Bayern was originally looking for strong reinforcements on the wing attack, especially after the plan to sign Antony Gordon fell through. In the central attacking midfield, with Musiala, Gnabry, and new attacking star Lennart Karl, Bayern Munich already possessed several players capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or central attacking core.

For Kompany, Saibari's versatility may have played a decisive role. Saibari can play as an attacking midfielder, a false nine, or a winger. In the past season, Saibari contributed an impressive 19 goals and 9 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions for Eindhoven.

At Bayern Munich, the management's willingness to comply with the head coach's wishes in a transfer of this magnitude is by no means a given in the past. Especially in recent years, there have been numerous instances where head coaches' transfer wishes were not fully met. For example, during Tuchel's tenure, despite his repeated public requests, the club ultimately did not fulfill his desire to sign a defensive midfielder. Therefore, Munich's apparent willingness to spend approximately 55 million euros for Saibari—Kompany's preferred choice—can be seen as a huge vote of confidence in the young Belgian coach.

With Saibari, the situation seems to have changed. According to multiple consistent media reports, the Moroccan star, who is currently playing in the World Cup with his national team and scored in the 1-1 draw against Brazil, is now only one step away from a transfer to Munich. It is said that the only thing missing now is the medical examination, which is expected to take place locally in the United States.
