Exclusive: The German side have snapped up the centre-back with the deal expected to be made public soon
Ducth-born defender of Ghanaian descent Derrick Luckassen is expected to complete a transfer to German club Hertha Berlin in the coming hours.
According to a Goal source, the 23-year-old centre-back is set to be announced as the latest signing of the Bundesliga outfit, a transfer that will end his one-year misery at Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.
He will join Pal Dardai’s side on a one-year loan, with an option to buy at the end of the period.
Luckassen has been forced to look elsewhere after struggling for regular game time at PSV.
Following a summer transfer to The Red and Whites last year, the Amsterdam-born made 19 Eredivisie outings, involving just nine starts, in season 2017-18.
He was initially willing to stay at Philips Stadion to fight for his place this season but a transfer away became necessary after holding talks with the club following their pre-season friendly against Spanish outfit Valencia on July 28.
PSV were not keen on letting him go, but the defender’s interest in a move away has forced a reconsideration.
Born to Ghanaian parents in the Netherlands, Luckassen is eligible to represent Ghana at senior level, having played for his birth country at various youth levels.
He maintains his doors are open to the Black Stars as much as they are to Oranje.
He is younger brother of Almere City striker Kevin Luckassen.
