The German newspaper Bild is reporting that a man is threatening to blow up an apartment block in Hamburg, one of the host cities for Euro 2024.

A man has reportedly barricaded himself in an apartment building in the German city of Hamburg, and is threatening to blow the building up.

According to the German media outlet Bild, police have deployed “in large numbers” to the scene of the incident, in the Eimsbittel area of the city. Bild adds that emergency medical personnel and the fire brigade are also on sight.

The street, Schäferstrasse, has reportedly been cordoned off.

Hamburg is one of the host cities for the UEFA European Championships in Germany. The city’s Volksparkstadion is the venue for today’s Group B game between Croatia and Albania.

On Sunday, police in Hamburg shot and seriously injured a man who was wielding an axe and threatening officers.

Although not thought to be related to Euro 2024, the weekend incident is reported to have taken place near a fanzone for supporters of the Netherlands national team, which was played in Hamburg on the same day.
