On May 9, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso officially announced in a pre-match press conference ahead of their clash with Borussia Dortmund that he will leave the club at the end of the season.
Alonso stated: “The club and I have mutually agreed that these next two games will be my last as Bayer Leverkusen manager.”
Since taking charge in October 2022, Alonso has managed 139 matches for Leverkusen, recording 89 wins, 31 draws, and 18 losses—a win rate of 64.4%. Under his leadership, Leverkusen have won the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, and the German Super Cup.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Alonso’s move to become Real Madrid’s new head coach is in its final stages. Contracts are reportedly ready, Leverkusen will not stand in his way, and they have already begun the search for his successor.
