Rummenigge: UEFA and FIFA need to find a solution on wages and transfers

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has once again raised his voice to highlight the financial sustainability that threatens European football and called on the football authorities (UEFA and FIFA) to put an end to the imbalances that are being generated by the enormous financial power of the Premier League. Speaking to BR24, the former CEO and current board member of Bayern Munich issued a stark warning about the current transfer system: "We cannot go on with constantly rising wages and transfer costs. This is not a serious way of working," said Rummenigge, who was highly critical of the direction football has been heading in recent years, underlining how German clubs - and Bayern itself - can no longer compete with the figures offered by English club.

According to the former manager, the root of the problem lies in the capital coming from outside investors: "In England, clubs are now owned by billionaires or even states, such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar. That forces you to compete with them even in the Champions League. Rummenigge advocates readjusting the financial rules of European football: "We need to reduce the limit from 70% to 60%, or even better, to 55% of revenues for salaries and transfers. Football cannot be the only industry in the world where money is systematically lost
The legendary Bayern striker also expects FIFA and UEFA to promote a joint discussion: "We need a shared solution, we cannot continue with the 'always more' mentality. Clubs, players and agents must sit down together to seriously discuss the future. For Rumennigge, increasing costs could be counterproductive for players and agents: "They must be careful not to fall into a trap: if there is no money, they always look for new competitions or extend the calendar, but this is no longer sustainable."
