In a recent session with the press, Brazzo opened up about Bayern’s current situation, his lack of visibility, the Wenger rumours, and his position.
Bayern Munich’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, in a recent press-talk/’mini-conference’, broke his supposed ‘silence’ (basically two weeks of not reporting anything to the media).
Most sporting directors are understood to be out of the limelight and work mostly BEHIND the scenes, but the recent drama surrounding Bayern’s performance on the pitch has drawn extra attention to Salihamidzic. Here is a synopsis of the talk, as covered by Bild:
Speaking about the team’s recent injuries and player performances:
We often lead, often by two goals. But we don’t manage to maintain that performance over 90 minutes. We have the bad luck that currently every shot against us is a goal.
About Bayern coach Niko Kovac:
I think that the game spoke for itself. I was happy that the team took responsibility. That we finally played like Bayern. We are now traveling to Bremen, obviously with Niko, and we’ll try to win there.
On his own lack of visibility:
On Saturday, the president spoke. When he speaks, it’s not necessary for everyone to say something afterward. When I have something to say, then I say what I think. Otherwise I work in the background. We have a lot to do right now.
About Wenger and whether there has been any contact with the former Arsenal coach:
No. There has been 100% no contact with Arsene Wenger.
On his own status as sporting director:
I don’t have to defend myself. Why should I defend myself? I’m doing enough work in the background. We have things to do. We’ll do a few things -- in the winter, in the summer. And as I already said: when I have something to say, then I say it. When I don’t, then I don’t have to just say any old things that have no meaning.
Recent rumors allegedly emanating from the Bayern locker room and front office suggested that the Bayern sporting director was not being taken seriously by both the board and the team; subsequently causing a section of the fans to deem Salihamidzic the wrong man for such a huge task.
There are many who expect the sporting director to speak out and keep the fans updated regularly on the happenings within and outside the squad. Salihamidzic, however, simply stated that his job involves working mostly in the background. He clearly seems to trust the coach and the team in the current run of things. Additionally, everyone who has been experiencing the waves of panic and trauma as a result of the Wenger rumors can take a breather; at least for now. It doesn’t seem like Wenger will go to Bayern anytime soon to say the least.
