Werder Bremen Managing Director Wants to Keep Füllkrug but Must Negotiate His Future with West Ham

German outlet SPORT1 reports that Füllkrug has been loaned to Werder Bremen until the end of the season, but the international striker's future remains unclear.

Werder Bremen managing director Clemens Fritz (45) hopes to continue working with star striker Niklas Füllkrug (33) beyond the summer. However, Fritz also stressed that the forward is on loan from West Ham United, so his future is not entirely in Werder Bremen's hands.

"We know what we have in Niklas, and Niklas knows what he has in Werder Bremen. Of course, we would be very happy if he could stay in Bremen after the season," Fritz told RTL/Sky Sport. "The most important thing is that the player feels comfortable. I think that's already the case."

The managing director of the fifth-placed Bundesliga side also said Werder Bremen still needs to reach an agreement with the English club: "The next step is to open a dialogue with West Ham United. Of course, we will negotiate on this. Ultimately, we will have to see what the financial package looks like."

Füllkrug's loan expires at the end of the season, and Werder Bremen do not have a buy option for the player, who has 24 international caps. Since returning to the Weser, "Füll" has become indispensable, scoring 9 goals in 8 games and currently topping the Bundesliga scoring charts. It has been almost a year and a half since his last appearance for the national team, but national coach Julian Nagelsmann recently called up the 33-year-old again.
