Burnley striker Wout Weghorst has joined Bundesliga side Hoffenheim on a season-long loan.

The 31-year-old started last season on-loan at Besiktas before joining Manchester United for the latter half of the campaign.

The Netherlands international made 31 appearances for Erik ten Hag's side but failed to secure a permanent move after finding the net on just two occasions.

Weghorst, who was signed by Burnley for £12million in January 2022, bid an emotional farewell to the club on Tuesday before his move to Germany was confirmed.

'Dear Man United fans, thanks for everything,' he said in a video posted on Instagram. 'I really enjoyed every single second at this club.

'From winning silverware to scoring my first goal against [Real] Betis at Old Trafford.

'Dreams came true. Unbelievably proud to wear the badge. Wish you all the best for the future. Manchester United fans - thank you for everything.'

The hardworking front man joins the Pellegrino Matarazzo-managed side who could only manage a 12th-place finish last term.

Though in Weghorst Hoffenheim have a striker with proven pedigree in the division thanks to his 118 game stint with Wolfsburg which yielded 59 goals.

Managing director Alexander Rosen said: 'I don't think I'm exaggerating when I describe this transfer as significant and extraordinary. It certainly is for us.

'The fact that a striker with his track record and all the options available to him has chosen Hoffenheim shows that the club are attractive even to big-named players.'
