Antonee Robinson is reportedly being eyed up by Liverpool – years after the Fulham ace previously confessed he didn't regret ditching rivals Everton.
The United States international has emerged as one of the top-flight's best left-backs following a challenging period at Goodison Park. He joined Everton's ranks at just 11 years old and remained there until 2019 without ever making an appearance for the first team.
Plagued by injuries and playing second fiddle to Leighton Baines and Lucas Digne, Robinson left his boyhood club for a fruitful loan spell with Wigan Athletic during the 2018/19 campaign.
After just one season with the Latics, Robinson left for Fulham in a £2million deal with the club relegated to League One due to being slapped with a 12-point penalty for entering administration.
The 27-year-old nearly found himself joining AC Milan before becoming a Cottager, but was denied a dream move after the Serie A giants discovered a heart rhythm irregularity during his medical, reports Liverpool.com. Further testing wasn't able to be done before the winter transfer window deadline.
Opening up to the Liverpool Echo about waving goodbye to Wigan due to their drop to the third tier and discussing his Everton farewell, he admitted having zero regrets over leaving the Toffees.
"Not one regret, no," he reflected. "Everton were always really honest with me, they just said, 'we've got rid of a few players but we definitely need to keep Bainesy. We can't get rid of Jags, the captain, and lose Baines as well. It's getting rid of so much of Everton in the changing room and he's such a good player as well still. We've got him and Digne starts for us so you have to wait for two injuries to start so you're not even making the bench at the minute so we think it's best for you if you just leave. It's nothing to do with you, it's just you need to play.'
"I am really thankful they were that upfront and honest with me because it gave me the chance to go away and progress elsewhere."
Almost five years after waving goodbye to Goodison Park, Robinson might be on the brink of a Merseyside comeback, this time donning the Liverpool red, as rumours swirl about the club's interest in snapping him up. According to Give Me Sport, Arne Slot's side could be battling it out with Manchester United and Chelsea to clinch his signature.
With Liverpool only adding Federico Chiesa during the summer transfer window, it's been reported that the Reds are mulling over a swoop for Robinson, potentially launching a bid in the winter window or waiting it out until next summer.
