Fulham striker Raúl Jiménez has paid a heartfelt tribute to Diogo Jota, his close friend and former Wolves team-mate, after the Liverpool forward’s death in a car crash.

Jota and his brother, fellow soccer player André Silva, were killed in the early hours of Thursday, in an accident on a highway in Zamora province, Spain.

“We’ll always remember you”

It’s hard to process this kind of news - I still can’t believe it,” wrote Jiménez, who is currently at the CONCACAF Gold Cup with the Mexico national team, in an Instagram story.

“An incredible teammate, a friend, and above all, a great father. Thank you for everything, my friend. We’ll always remember you. Sending a hug to heaven.”

A duo who clicked on and off the pitch

Before moving to Fulham in 2023, Jiménez coincided with Jota at Wolves for two seasons, from 2018 to 2020. At Molineux, the pair built a close relationship off the field and formed a dynamic duo on it.

Notably, Jiménez’s chemistry with Jota was at the heart of the Mexican’s career-best season in 2019/20, when the 34-year-old scored 27 goals and supplied 10 assists in all competitions for the Premier League club.
