Juan Mata has revealed that his greatest moment in a Manchester United shirt came in his famous performance in the 2-1 win over Liverpool in 2015.
It's a game that has lasted long in the memory of United supporters, with Steven Gerrard's red card just 45 seconds after coming on as a substitute being one of the main reasons, but it also earned Mata cult hero status on the Old Trafford terraces as he scored twice to secure the win.
The Spaniard's first goal was a lovely finish with his weaker foot as he shot into the far corner but it would be topped by the sensational overhead scissor kick he scored in the second-half.
Despite a late Liverpool comeback and a missed Wayne Rooney penalty, United hung on to record the famous win and it's a result that Mata will never forget.
"I have to say that is probably of course one of my best days as a Manchester United player," Mata said about the match on a United hangout.
"Any fan that I meet in the street, restaurants, or if they come to Old Trafford or the training ground, our conversation always ends up them saying 'thanks for that day at Anfield.'
"When you play for Manchester United and have the chance to score twice at Anfield and win the game it's something that first you can not forget and second fans won't forget either.
"I was very privileged to do that and it was a very nice afternoon, let's say."
Scoring goals against Liverpool is a guaranteed way to make yourself a legend at United and Mata also revealed he was fully aware of the game's importance.
"The manager always tell you that, whether it's Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] or at that time Louis van Gaal, they always tell you the games against Liverpool are special and if you have the chance to make a great game or score a few goals you will be remembered.
"That's what happened with [Diego] Forlan, for example, and that day I had the chance to do that and of course we won the game also which was important so that memory will always be with me."
