For some members of Arsenal's squad, it's time to start thinking about the future.
As it stands, Jorginho, Cedric Soares and Mohamed Elneny will all be out of contract next June. David Raya's loan agreement will also end at that point, although the Gunners can sign the Spain international on a permanent deal if they give Brentford £27million.
Mikel Arteta must decide whether Raya and the other three stars are worth investing in again. The Arsenal boss is desperate to end their 20-year wait for a Premier League title and needs players who are capable of knocking Manchester City off their perch.
Here, Mirror Football assesses each player's chances of securing a new contract...
Jorginho
Arsenal fans are starting to see why Jorginho was named as UEFA's Men's Player of the Year in 2021. The Italy international, who turns 32 next month, joined the Gunners from Chelsea 10 months ago and struggled to make much of an impression during his first half-season at the Emirates, with Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey often preferred by Arteta.
Jorginho's hopes of featuring this season looked even slimmer when Declan Rice arrived in a £105m deal in July, but the midfielder has slowly asserted himself on Arteta's team. He's started four of their last five Premier League games, two of which as captain.
Jorginho has the option to extend his contract by a further 12 months - and there's a good chance that clause will be exercised. Yet he's admitted that he would like to return to Italy before hanging up his boots and is unsure when to take the leap.
Jorginho was asked about his future on Tuesday. He told reporters: "I'm very much in doubt, I would like to return, but I don't know when the right time would be. I want to return, yes. But I don't know when. I feel I still have things to do at Arsenal."
Mohamed Elneny
It's remarkable to think Elneny has been on Arsenal's books for nearly eight years. The Egypt international, 31, has spent much of his time at the Emirates on the bench or in the treatment room. He even spent a season on loan at Turkish side Besiktas.
Despite making just 89 Premier League appearances since arriving from Basel in January 2016, Elneny is a popular figure at the Emirates. Arsenal fans like having him as a squad player and are happy to see him fit again after a 10-month lay off with a serious knee injury.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see Arteta hand Elneny a new contract, but will he put pen to paper? If he's happy to be a squad player, the answer is yes. But if Arsenal are serious about winning the title, there's no chance Elneny will play week in, week out.
"Arsenal football club, they know I love them 100 per cent, so much," Elneny, who has described north London as "home", told the Evening Standard last month. "They know I don’t want to leave. I want to stay and finish my career there, 100 per cent."
Cedric Soares
The forgotten man. Cedric has played just two Premier League games for Arsenal since August 2022, spending the second half of last season on loan at Fulham. The 32-year-old defender was widely expected to leave the Emirates during the previous transfer window.
Yet Cedric failed to find a new club and was handed a lifeline by Arteta after Jurrien Timber ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on his Premier League debut in August. He could be needed if any more full-backs pick up an injury over the coming weeks, but he'll surely leave the Emirates if that doesn't happen. It seems as if his time is up.
David Raya
It's fair to say Raya's transfer hasn't gone to plan. The 28-year-old goalkeeper was signed as an upgrade on Aaron Ramsdale, but most Arsenal fans are yet to be convinced. He's made several blunders and is under huge pressure to find his saving gloves.
But despite Raya's errors, he's still preferred to Ramsdale in goal. Arteta has put his faith in the Spaniard and is expected to hand Brentford that £27m... unless he can find an upgrade between now and next summer. That would hardly be a surprise. After all, few people expected Ramsdale to be axed after two seasons as Arsenal's No.1.
