Five Liverpool fans are facing the prospect of lifetime bans from Anfield for illegally trying to resell Champions League final tickets for up to £4,500.

The supporters have been identified by the club's investigations team who have been closely monitoring online secondary ticketing platforms.

Serial numbers on the tickets have enabled the Reds to trace them back to who they were initially sold to.

Now a full investigation will follow with the cases heard in front of a sanctions panel. If found guilty the five fans will be handed indefinite bans from matches at Anfield.

Tickets for the final showdown with Tottenham in Madrid on June 1 are spread across four pricing categories with a face value of £513, £385, £154 and £60. However, the tickets under scrutiny were being offered online for between £2,500 and £4,500 each.

Liverpool have the power to cancel tickets for the final if it's proved that they have been resold and have warned that anyone buying from a secondary ticketing market may not get into the Wanda Metropolitano
