The 21-year-old has been confirmed to miss October's Afcon qualifying matches

Hibernian attacker Thomas Agyepong will not travel to Ghana for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Sierra Leone due to injury, Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah has revealed.

The Manchester City loanee, who was set to return to national duty after a long time out, will have to wait for at least one more month to make his comeback to the four-time African champions.

He was part of a 23-man team named for the back-to-back games on Thursday and Monday.

"Unfortunately, Thomas Agyapong had an injury [while playing for his Scottish club]," Appiah told pressmen after Monday's training session.

"He did a scan and thought he could join the team but he has been given three weeks off. So for that reason, he can't be part of the team.

"There is no intention of replacing him. It's not going to affect our plan or the team.

"We wish he were part of the team but you can't force him to play.

"That's the reason why we called 23 players; if someone gets injured and gets ruled out, we can get his replacement."

Ghana, tied on three points with each of the other three teams in Group F, are hoping to tear away with six points from the double-header.

The matches, though, currently hang in the balance due to Sierra Leone's Fifa suspension from football on Friday. Their status is expected to be clarified on Tuesday.
