Ajax’s former manager claims they lost to ‘perhaps doped’ Juve in 1996 UCL final

Ajax’s former team manager claims the club want ‘revenge’ against Juventus because the Bianconeri ‘perhaps doped’ in the 1996 Champions League Final.

This season’s quarter-final between Ajax and Juve is a rematch of the mid-90s showpiece in Rome, when the Old Lady beat the Dutch side on penalties for their last triumph in the competition.

“Juve are the real favourites, there’s no doubt about that, but with the ruthless nature of Ajax’s football, anything is possible,” David Endt told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“After that, we have something else... revenge, I’d say. True, very true, because at the time in Rome, we played against a Juventus side who later turned out to be perhaps a bit doped, no-one knows the truth…

“That still burns us. It’s another reason, with all due respect for Juve.”
