Ajax vs Tottenham PREVIEW: Another comeback awaiting? Spurs out to cause upset

  /  autty

With Liverpool making the impossible possible against the almighty Barcelona yesterday, Tottenham have certainly taken inspiration and would hope to overcome their 1-0 first-leg deficit at Ajax later today.

Ajax vs Tottenham

First legTottenham 0-1 Ajax: Van de Beek seals win before Vertonghen suffers head injury

Kick off: 21:00 (CET)

Probable line-ups:

Missing players:

Ajax: Carel Eiting (injured)

Tottenham: Serge Aurier, Harry Kane, Harry Winks, Davinson Sanchez (injured); Jan Vertonghen, Erik Lamela (doubtful)

Team news:

Ajax:

The only selection conundrum comes at right-back, with Noussair Mazraoui hoping to reclaim his starting spot from Joel Veltman. The rest of the Ajax starting XI picks itself.

Tottenham:

Son Heung-Min is available following his ban and he should feature from the off, despite his red card at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Jan Vertonghen suffered a nasty head injury after a collision in the first leg, yet showed no ill effects and he's set to recover in time to start.

Erik Lamela will be assessed for the away side, but Serge Aurier, Harry Kane and Harry Winks all miss out.

Focus:

Ajax are undefeated in 18 of their last 19 Champions League matches.

Ajax will be full of confidence ahead of their welcome of Tottenham for this second leg clash. The Dutch giants earned a first leg 1-0 win in London and will be looking to build upon their Dutch Cup triumph on Sunday having swept Willem II aside in a 4-0 win.

Tottenham are ending the season poorly after a 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth, a game in which they had Son Heung-Min and Juan Foyth sent off.

Spurs have won only one of their last six in all competitions and they've lost nine of their last 10 on the road, with the exception a 1-0 Champions League win at Borussia Dortmund.

Son's availability is a huge boost to Tottenham and while they may score, Ajax should secure the result that earns them a Champions League final spot.
