Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain provided fans with a fresh boost as he showed he is stepping up the intensity in the gym as he continues his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury.

The 25-year-old suffered a nasty injury to his knee during last season's Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma.

But taking to his official Instagram page on Thursday, Oxlade-Chamberlain showed himself testing his leg during a workout in the gym as he insisted in the caption he is 'on the grind'.

The England midfielder appears to have maintained his positivity during the rehab process but he is unlikely to pull on the Liverpool shirt for the remainder of the season.

Keeping supporters up to date through his social media platforms, Oxlade-Chamberlain has incorporated bike work along with boxing drills in a bid to speed up his return to the first-team.

The recovery exercises have varied from rope work while out on holiday with close friends to seeing his knee tested more than ever since his injury inside the club's Melwood training ground.

After defeat to Napoli in the Champions League in midweek, his team-mates are now seeking a response back in the league where they remain unbeaten.

His team-mates are busy preparing to take on Premier League champions Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday - a game he dazzled in last term.

Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring after just nine minutes that day with a stunner from distance before Pep Guardiola's side were blown away in what concluded to be a 4-3 win for the Reds.
