Brazilian football star Dani Alves' mother has launched an extraordinary attack on the woman he is accused of raping.

Lucia Alves took the astonishing step of naming her son's accuser and posting photos she claimed showed her parting after the alleged attack in a crude attempt to discredit her.

Her son, 40, was arrested on suspicion of rape on 20 January in Barcelona after flying to Spain from Mexico and has been held in custody since then.

Now, Lucia has told her 15,000 Instagram followers alongside a selfie photo of the young woman whose first name and surname she published: 'See the complainant for the first time'.

Lucia went on to highlight how the 24-year-old, who will give evidence against Alves at his rape trial next month in Barcelona, had backtracked on her original decision to renounce her right to compensation if the footballer is convicted.

And Alves' mother, who has previously accused 'Judas traitors' of taking her imprisoned son away from her, completed her astonishing post by publishing videos of his female accuser partying.

Lucia claimed the footage had been taken after Alves, who has been sacked by Mexican club Pumas over the allegations, was arrested over the alleged nightclub rape at the end of December 2022.

She used the footage to try to discredit medical reports submitted as part of the prosecution case against her son pointing to how his alleged victim was suffering anxiety and depression.

Lucia went on to publish a selfie photo of her with her son, who is married to model Joana Sanz, alongside a message which said: 'I'd give my life for you my love. I love you to infinity and beyond.'

In another message alongside a photo of Alves with his loved ones referencing his upcoming trial, she added: 'It doesn't matter what we've gone through or are going through or what we've still got left to experience.

'What matters is the love that unites us and we will give our last drop of blood to get you out of that trap my son.'

Spanish court officials have yet to comment on the post and Brazilian media are speculating Lucia could have landed herself in hot water with both the Spanish state and the woman who has accused Alves of rape.

Lucia published her post as her son prepares to take the stand at a three-day trial after being warned he could be jailed for up to 12 years if convicted.

State prosecutors laid out their case against Alves, who has been on remand in prison near Barcelona since January 20 last year and turned 40 behind bars last May, in a pre-trial indictment they submitted in November.

It revealed they were seeking a nine-year prison sentence for the footballer and a ten-year probation period on conviction.

They also said they wanted the father-of-two to pay £130,000 (150,000 euros) in compensation to his victim, who has not been named or identified in her homeland of Spain, if he is found guilty.

Lawyers acting for Alves' alleged victim, who are also prosecuting him as part of the same trial, have demanded the maximum 12-year prison sentence.

Spanish state prosecutors are accusing Alves of slapping his alleged victim round the face before raping her in the early hours of December 31 2022.

They will also claim the footballer left his female accuser feeling 'anguish and terror' after locking her inside a toilet at upmarket Barcelona nightclub Sutton, groping her and trying to make her to perform a sex act on him before consummating the rape without putting on a condom.

The trial is due to run from February 5 to 7 at Barcelona's Audiencia Provincial court.

Alves has admitted to cheating on his model wife Joana Sanz by having sex with his female accuser but insists it was consensual,

State prosecutors have defined the crime he is charged with in their indictment as one of 'sexual assault with penetration.'

The footballer was ordered to stand trial in November in a move which paved the way for the state prosecution indictment.

Initially it was reported Alves had been accused of putting his hands down a woman's underwear inside a toilet in the VIP area of Sutton nightclub before it emerged his alleged victim was saying she had been raped.

He was sacked by Mexican side UNAM Pumas following his arrest in Barcelona at the start of last year after he flew back to the Catalan capital to attend his mother-in-law's funeral.

He has made repeated bail requests but they have all been turned down, with judges saying his alleged victim's version of events was coherent and pointing out Alves had changed his story several times as the evidence authorities have against him has emerged.

Alves claimed before his arrest he had never met his female accuser but ended up backtracking after being held.

In an exclusive interview from his cell in Brians 2 Prison near Barcelona in June with Spanish TV and newspaper reporter Mayka Navarro, he claimed: 'The only person I have to ask for forgiveness is my wife, Joana Sanz.'

As well as two spells at Barcelona, Alves has played for Seville, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Sao Paulo.

He is widely considered as one of the greatest full-backs of all time.

He became the oldest player to represent Brazil at the World Cup in December 2022 in Qatar.
