Amanda Anisimova makes unwanted Wimbledon history against Iga Swiatek

  /  autty

Amanda Anisimova endured a horrific first ever appearance in a Grand Slam final as she lost 0-6, 0-6 to Iga Swiatek in the ladies singles at Wimbledon 2025.

The American was unable to recover from a nightmare start which saw her lose her opening service game. It was one-way traffic from that moment on, with the Pole breaking three times in each set, with Anisimova unable to respond.

Swiatek’s superb showing in the early stages of the final had many looking to the record books in search of the most dominant ever performance in a Wimbledon final, and quickly left Anisimova desperate to avoid an unwanted first.

Had there ever been a 6-0, 6-0 scoreline in a Wimbledon ladies singles final?

No player had ever failed to win a single game in a Wimbledon final in the Open Era, either male or female. In the ladies singles final, there had been two examples of a player winning just one game in two sets.

In 1951, Doris Hart beat Shirley Fry 6-1, 6-0, while Billie Jean King defeated Evonne Goolagong by the same scoreline in 1975.

However, in the Amateur Era (pre-1968), Dorothea Lambert Chambers thrashed Dora Boothby 6-0, 6-0 in 1911, the year after defeating the same player 6-2, 6-2.
