Ruben Amorim has implied he will adopt the same approach he took in Manchester United's recent meeting with Arsenal in Sunday's huge Manchester derby.
The new Red Devils head coach will renew acquittances with Pep Guardiola and Manchester City just weeks after putting the Premier League champions to the sword in the Champions League for his old club, Sporting Lisbon.
And with City currently in the midst of their worst ever run of form, Amorim and United will fancy their chances of inflicting even more misery on their noisy neighbours - even if they themselves are not exactly in rude health.
Speaking ahead of the game, Amorim has hinted that he may set his team up similarly to the clash against Arsenal earlier this month, where United played reasonably well in the first half before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat.
“I always look forward to coaching Manchester United,” Amorim told club media. “Especially in the derby, but we have so much to focus on to improve day by day.
“We want to see different things [against Man City]. I think we did a good job in the first half against Arsenal, so we have that ability we have players to do it, and we will try to do it again and try to win the game.”
While United are still languishing in the lower half of the Premier League table, the upcoming festive fixture list should give them ample opportunity to claw back points on those above them, provided they can find so form.
They will, at least, be buoyed by their win over Viktoria Plzen in midweek ahead of the derby. Amorim added: “It’s so important, as when you go to prepare the next game, you have the feeling of winning So you you don’t care the way about winning.
“We should win this type of games that we had Thursday so Now we’re going to another game. We need to win. We lost the other two in Premier League. We have to have this feeling of winning these kind of games, and we will be ready.”
