Ancelotti hands Tottenham major Pochettino boost following Real Madrid admission

Carlo Ancelotti may have handed Tottenham Hotspur a boost in their pursuit of former boss Mauricio Pochettino

Last season, the Italian helped his side clinch a top-four finish and subsequent UEFA Champions League qualification ahead of local rivals Arsenal. However, this term, things have been far less rosy.

The veteran coach then officially left the club by mutual consent on Sunday evening, with assistant coach Christian Stellini taking charge until the end of the current campaign.

Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with a sensational return to N17 but recent reports had claimed that the Argentine could be heading to Real Madrid if current Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti were to become the next manager of the Brazilian national team.

However, the Italian coach has now spoken about his desire to remain at the Bernabeu Stadium for the foreseeable future, something that could make Tottenham recruiting Pochettino a lot easier. Speaking to Marca, Ancelotti said: "I want to stay at Real Madrid. I'm happy.

"I have said many times that I would stay at Real Madrid for the rest of my life."
