Anfield awards Casillas with another standing ovation

  /  autty

As they did last season when both sides met in the Champions League, Liverpool fans paid tribute to the FC Porto keeper with a standing ovation.

Fans at Anfield paid a touching tribute to 37-year-old FC Porto keeper Iker Casillas with a standing ovation during the Champions League quarter final first leg tie last night. The former Spanish international received a similar reception last season when both the English and Portuguese sides were pitted together in the same competition.

Grateful

"Any positive gesture from rival fans to a visiting player says much about the Liverpool supporters and of course I'm very grateful for the warm reception, these seconds of applause are always welcome. To be honest, every time I've played here I've been treated impeccably" stated the goalkeeper in a post match interview with Spanish network #Vamos.

This may not be the last time Casillas plays at Anfield after the Mostoles born stopper recently penned a contract extension with the Liga NOS side that will see him remain in Portugal through to the 2021 season. Yesterday was Casillas' fourth game at the iconic English ground. Previous trips include a 2008/09 season defeat with Real Madrid (4-0), a 0-3 (2014/15) win with his former club along with last seasons 0-0 stalemate, all in the UEFA Champions League.
