Anthony Gordon update: £80m star to return to Newcastle training amid transfer talk

Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon will return to training on Wednesday and looks set to feature against Brighton this weekend.

Daily Mail Sport can reveal that the 25-year-old has recovered from the hip issue that has kept him out of training for the past fortnight, missing defeats against Bournemouth and Arsenal in that time.

Given the speculation around Gordon's future, his absence led to some conspiracy over the legitimacy of his injury.

However, multiple sources confirmed to us that a scan two weeks ago showed an issue, and Eddie Howe hit back when the player's commitment was brought into question on Friday.

'Anthony Gordon is injured, 100 per cent,' he said. 'So it's a non-question.'

Gordon's return is a boost for Howe, whose side have lost four games on the spin in the Premier League and are currently 14th in the table.

It will also be a relief for England boss Thomas Tuchel, who is likely to start with Gordon on the left of a front three at this summer's World Cup.

Beyond that, should offers land, his future is almost certain to be away from St James' Park. Bayern Munich, among others, hold a strong interest, but the player is yet to communicate any intentions to leave, or otherwise, to Newcastle.

An asking price in the region of £80million, with four years to run on Gordon's contract, could yet prove a stumbling block for would-be buyers.
