On September 10, the Brazilian striker also issued a statement on social media on the matter after Manchester United officially confirmed that he agreed to Anthony's postponement of returning while he dealt with domestic violence allegations. He said the postponement was a decision made by both him and the club and that he would fully cooperate with the police to help them find out the truth.

I have agreed with Manchester United to take a period of absence while l address the allegations made against me. This was a mutual decision to avoid distraction to my teammates and unnecessary controversy for the club. I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, and I will fully cooperate with the police to help them reach the truth. I look forward to returning to play as soon as possible.
