Arsenal fans can't contain sadness as Ramsey posts farewell message

Aaron Ramsey's impending departure from Arsenal has prompted an outpouring of sadness and affection from Gunners supporters on social media.

The Welsh midfielder had been set to leave the Emirates Stadium after the club withdrew a contract offer earlier this season, and it has now been confirmed that he will join Juventus in the summer.

Ramsey will earn a stunning £400,000-per-week deal in Turin, which is set to net him £83million from four years in Serie A.

After the deal was confirmed, Ramsey posted a heartfelt message on social media: 'I wanted to issue a personal statement for all the Arsenal fans who have been extremely loyal and supportive.

'You welcomed me as a teenager and have been there for me through all the highs and lows I've encountered during my time at the club. It is with a heavy heart I leave after 11 incredible years in north London.

'I will continue to give the team 100 per cent and hope to finish the season strongly before heading to my next chapter in Turin.'

The esteem in which Ramsey is still held by many Arsenal supporters is reflected in the replies to this tweet - far from bitterness that he is leaving, the majority thank him for his service, and reflect on his high points with the club.

These include the winning goals in both the 2014 and 2017 FA Cup finals - Ramsey also played in the 2015 triumph.

Also appreciated is Ramsey's return from serious injury - he suffered a horrendous broken leg from a Ryan Shawcross tackle in March 2010 which kept him out for nine months, however he returned to be a key player for Arsene Wenger's team.

Other fans were unable to articulate their disappointment in words, and instead posted sad memes and GIFs to show their feelings.
