Arsenal fans endure four hour flight delay after Europa League final

Arsenal fans who paid nearly £1,000 for their flights to Baku for the Europa League final have slammed travel organisers after enduring a four-hour flight delay on their return journey.

The Gunners were comfortably beaten 4-1 in the final by Chelsea with Eden Hazard scoring twice and Olivier Giroud and Pedro also finding the back of the net.

Arsenal fans' misery was then compounded with a length delay on their trip back from the Azerbaijani capital with airline Thomas Cook in the early hours of Thursday morning.

One fan, @HOBBO71, tweeted: 'So you spend a grand to travel with Arsenal on a chartered flight. No info, no announcements four hour delays on a chartered flight. @Arsenal @thomascooksport absolute f****** shambles.'

A Thomas Cook employee replied: 'I'm really sorry that you've been delayed, Mark. I know this must be really frustrating. This flight has now departed and you'll be home soon.'

It is the second transportation gaffe from Thomas Cook in as many days as Chelsea fans were stuck at Luton Airport with lengthy flight delays halting their travel to Baku for the Europa League final on Wednesday.

Thomas Cook, the Blues' official travel partner, offered return economy flights for the 2,468-mile trip to Baku at a price of £979 earlier this month and that did not include the match ticket.

One fan claimed on Twitter the reason behind the delays was a lack of fuel for the plane: 'Chelsea FC please sort this shambles of a trip to Baku out. I know Thomas Cook may be skint but no fuel for the plane? Really?'.

Another supporter said: 'Actually the Chelsea charter flight seems to be stuck on the tarmac at Luton. 1 hr + delay so far after 1hr 15 mins queue at check in. Thanks Chelsea and Thomas Cook.'

Someone else said: 'We're still waiting on the tarmac at Luton for fuel, should've taken off 75 mins ago, official travel a joke yet again.'

The two flights from Luton, in fact, departed at 10am UK time after a two-hour delay.
