Arsenal fans have thanked Harry Kane for his contribution to their Premier League title challenge by highlighting old photos of him in a Gunners shirt, after the Tottenham star's winning goal against Manchester City.

Kane scored the only goal in Tottenham's hard-fought 1-0 win over City, with his 267th goal making him the club's all-time top scorer by overtaking Jimmy Greaves.

The strike saw Kane also become the fastest player to reach 200 Premier League goals, with Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney the only other forwards to hit the landmark.

Tottenham's victory also appeared to be celebrated across North London, with the result keeping Arsenal five points clear of defending champions Manchester City with a game in hand.

Arsenal fans revelled in the moment on social media, posting photos of a young Kane wearing an Arsenal shirt on the day the Invincibles secured the Premier League title back in 2004.

One Arsenal fan suggested Kane should be invited to the club's next potential title parade at the end of the current campaign.

'Hope we invite Harry Kane to our title parade,' one fan tweeted, with another posting 'Harry Kane winner to help The Arsenal. Football heritage.'

'Imagine we win the league by 2 points,' a third posted. 'We can pin point to this match as the moment Arsenal fan Harry Kane scored the winner to surpass Jimmy Greaves and hand his boyhood club the premier league trophy.'

'Massive respect to Harry Kane for breaking the Spurs goal-scoring record while helping Arsenal stay 5 points clear of Man City in the process,' another fan added. 'Once a gooner, always a gooner.'

The photo of a 10-year-old Kane at Arsenal's 2004 title parade came just after he had played for the Gunners' youth teams, before being released by the club.

Kane later joined Tottenham's academy, before famously being considered as 'One of our own' by the Spurs support.

The England captain had previously been asked about the subject by Arsenal fan Piers Morgan, with Kane saying 'I played for Arsenal when I was younger and unfortunately for them they let me go.'

The comment has not stopped Arsenal fans from delighting in his potential contribution to the title race, albeit some felt conflicted having welcome a Kane goal and Spurs victory.

'Would just like to congratulate fellow Arsenal fan Harry Kane on helping our beloved Gunners with a big goal in the title race,' one fan tweeted. 'A dream we all share and he gets to live it.'

'Harry Kane’s record breaking goal more important for The Arsenal than it was Spurs,' another added.

'Thank you Harry Kane, thank you Tottenham,' commented another Arsenal fan. 'Never thought I'd ever say that.'
