Arsenal have Evan Ferguson transfer alternative as Mikel Arteta hatches 2024 plan

Evan Ferguson is the name on Arsenal supporters' lips right now but the Brighton forward presents problems which might make Mikel Arteta look elsewhere

One window closes and immediately thoughts turn to the next summer transfers, it is the way of the game, but especially in the world of Arsenal it seems. Arsenal spent the most they have ever invested in one window in 2023 and with the return to the Champions League, there’s an expectation that they will look to do the same again next year.

It’s highly likely that any potential deal for Ferguson would demand a staggeringly high fee if his early season form persists throughout the campaign. He has a contract through to 2028 and Brighton have absolutely no need or pressure to sell the player as they continue their push to establish themselves at the top end of the table.

With that in mind, Arsenal would be better off looking elsewhere to bring a striker in and the continent might be the place to look. Although names like Victor Osimhen have been banded around, signing a younger option who can grow into the role at the club would surely be preferable.

At the weekend, Benjamin Sesko announced himself to RB Leipzig supporters. He like so many other players before him made the switch for Red Bull Salzburg to the Bundesliga side in search of the next step.

Arsenal have missed out on Dominik Szoboszlai, Naby Keita, Dayot Upamecano and more they were linked with from the German side in the past. However, could Sesko finally be the player they land?

Against Union Berlin, with a sole strike from Xavi Simons separating the sides, Sesko entered the fray and in his 15-minute cameo showcased his technical ability, verticality and finesse with two goals to secure all three points.

On 85 minutes a pass through from goalscorer Simons found the Slovenian forward who sprinted through, cut back and curled a strike around Frederik Ronnow. Just two minutes later, a lovely one-two flicked interchange with Dano Olmo and saw him loop a header over the Union keeper to announce himself in Germany.

It’s two minutes in a 15-minute cameo, but Sesko showcased everything he’s been doing in Austria, a player ready to take things to the next level. He’s one to watch, and Arsenal should certainly be amongst the clubs tracking him this season.
