Arsenal line up 4 summer transfer deals with 7 players in line for exits

Arsenal believe they will reap the rewards of their 'dry January' in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners did not make a single signing this winter despite exploring several market opportunities, however, they will now be armed with huge cash at the end of the season to strengthen their ranks.

Mikel Arteta, who made it clear throughout the final few weeks of the window that the club were working on incomings, is ready to push the button on the arrival of a new marquee striker with Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko at the top of his wish-list.

Prising Newcastle frontman Isak away from St James' Park will prove incredibly difficult, though - it could take a British-record transfer fee, in fact - and at this stage, it's believed RB Leipzig's Sesko currently represents a more viable, realistic target.

The Magpies want to keep the Swede at all costs and remain keen to extend their star attacker's contract when the time is right to ramp up negotiations with Isak and his representatives. Arsenal made a move for Sesko last June but he decided to stay put at Leipzig and sign fresh terms before flying to Euro 2024. The Bundesliga club made it clear he was untouchable in January and there were no formal talks over a potential deal.

For Arsenal, the chance to sign Isak may already have been and gone - they considered a swoop during his time at Real Sociedad - as it will take a huge financial package to land the centre-forward, who remains committed to Newcastle, where he is enjoying his football. It remains to be seen if interest in Ollie Watkins will be revisited given the England international turns 30 in December.

A new wide player also remains a possibility with Raheem Sterling set to return to Chelsea. Admiration for Athletic Club's Nico Williams remains strong but it's thought Arsenal are ready to prioritise the signing of a new striker as it's a burning issue they want to address.

There will also be major surgery in midfield at the Emirates this summer with Jorginho and Thomas Partey currently in line to depart as free agents upon the expiry of their deals. Should both leave as anticipated, they will need to be replaced.

Jorginho is currently in discussions with Brazilian giants Flamengo over a pre-contract agreement. Arsenal rebuffed an approach regarding an immediate cut-price sale last month as they did not want to weaken their midfield options and Arteta is counting on the Italian until the end of the campaign.

Notable groundwork has already been done on a £51million move for Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi although Real Madrid could yet enter the fray for the Spaniard, who snubbed Liverpool last summer. Arsenal are willing to meet Zubimendi's release clause but they would also have to strike an agreement on personal terms with the Euro 2024 winner and there is expected to be stiff competition from both home and abroad.

Rosenberg's 18-year-old Sverre Nypan is a target that's likely to be revisited this summer after the Norwegian prodigy opted to remain in Scandinavia for an additional six months. Arsenal would be willing to offer Nypan a clear pathway straight into their first-team.

A decision is also pending on a backup goalkeeper as veteran loanee Neto is due to return to Bournemouth. Espanyol No.1 Joan Garcia remains a player of interest and contact with his agency Niagara Sports Company has continued since Arsenal saw two bids rejected by the Spanish club in August.

Espanyol were insistent that his release clause must be met in order to reach an agreement. The Gunners were not willing to do so, instead landing Neto as a stopgap signing.

The Gunners have spent significant cash on their backline in recent transfer windows and further defensive reinforcements are likely to be dependent on outgoings. Ajax's Jorrel Hato remains on their radar.

Kieran Tierney is poised to rejoin Celtic on a free transfer while centre-back Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko look poised to pursue transfers due to their lack of minutes this season. Myles Lewis-Skelly has leapfrogged both Riccardo Calafiori and Zinchenko in the Arsenal pecking order in recent months, meaning a replacement for the Ukrainian is not deemed essential.

William Saliba is being eyed by Real Madrid but the Frenchman has no plans to leave Arsenal and the club have no interest in entertaining the idea of a sale.

The Emirates Stadium hierarchy are currently finalising the appointment of Edu's successor. Jason Ayto has stepped up on an interim basis and is a strong candidate for the sporting director position but the Gunners have also considered other options including Real Sociedad chief Roberto Olabe and former player Tomas Rosicky, currently at Sparta Prague.
