Arsenal 'narrow down midfield shortlist to Ruben Neves, Douglas Luiz, Tyler Adams Bruno Guimaraes'

Arsenal have narrowed their shortlist of midfielders down to four names they are interested in signing before the transfer window shuts.

The Gunners are yet to make any significant dealings this month and the clock is ticking if they are to push through signings before deadline day.

According to the Athletic, the club will make fresh moves from Alexander Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin while also cutting their midfielder short-list down to four.

They report that Wolves' Ruben Neves, Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa, RB Leipzig's Tyler Adams and Bruno Guimaraes of Lyon are the players in question.

Neves has been a stalwart at the heart of Wolves' midfield since moving from Porto and has also been of interest to Manchester United in the past.

Luiz is starting at the heart of midfield under Steven Gerrard and has long been a preferred option at Villa Park while Adams, 22, is showing promising signs in the Bundesliga.

Guimaraes has been one of the leading lights in Ligue 1 for Lyon this season and it seems unlikely the club will let him go unless Arsenal produce a substantial offer.

With Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey coming back from suspension, perhaps Arsenal will accept missing out on a midfielder if they are able to bring in a key target up front.

Dusan Vlahovic, the Serie A top scorer with Fiorentina, is a primary target, although his preference is a move to Juventus, who are readying a £50million bid.

Isak has gone from strength to strength for Real Sociedad while Calvert-Lewin is a proven goalscorer at Premier League level.

It seems unlikely that Everton would sell with so little time to find a replacement and a relegation battle on their hands this season.

Whether Arteta can bring in any of his targets will soon become clear before the deadline of next Monday at 11:00pm.
