Arsenal transfer: Calafiori move one step away as rivals want Eberechi Eze

Get ready for your first major summer signing, Arsenal fans, as Riccardo Calafiori is edging closer to joining the Gunners.

After weeks of speculation following his string of impressive displays for Italy at Euro 2024, the left-footed centre-back has been the subject of a £40million bid which has been accepted by Bologna. With personal terms in place, Arsenal are ready to finalise the defender's move to the Emirates and focus on further transfer targets.

Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze has been tipped to join Mikel Arteta's side before the transfer window closes on August 30, although the Gunners will face competition from a familiar foe. Meanwhile, Real Sociedad's Mikel Merino is also being linked with Arsenal and now a deal looks increasingly likely.

Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from the Emirates.

Calafiori left at home by Bologna

Bologna have omitted Arsenal-bound defender Riccardo Calafiori from their pre-season squad. Calafiori, 22, is preparing to leave the Serie A side who he helped finish in the Champions League places last term under newly-appointed Juventus manager Thiago Motta.

One final step remains, as his former club, Basel, are due 50 per cent of any transfer fee which Bologna receive. The clubs are currently negotiating the details of the exchange and once an agreement is reached, he's set to become a Gunner.

Man City eye Eze deal

Manchester City are weighing up a move for £68million-rated Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. Having spent the summer with England at Euro 2024, the playmaker is now being eyed by numerous Premier League sides, with both Arsenal and Tottenham linked.

But Mirror Football have exclusively reported that City are also keen on the 26-year-old, who has a release clause worth roughly £68million. Their interest comes after star Kevin De Bruyne received a lucrative contract offer from Saudi Arabian giants Al-Ittihad.

Real Sociedad facing Merino reality

Real Sociedad are now resigned to selling Arsenal target Mikel Merino this summer, Mirror Football has learned. The Spanish midfielder, formerly of Newcastle, had entered the final year of his contract and isn't expected to agree a new deal.

Arsenal, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are all interested in signing the 28-year-old for a cut-price fee to improve their midfields. Real Sociedad hope to recoup at least £25million if they decide to sell.
