Arsenal transfer news: Wonderkid signing paves way for Aaron Ramsdale exit

Arsenal are picking up the pace with their summer transfer business as Mikel Arteta bids retool his squad for another Premier League title challenge.

The Gunners came up just short of Manchester City for a second successive year last season. Arteta is desperate to finally end his side's wait for a title, which will now extend into a third decade.

He has already brought David Raya back on a permanent deal following a successful debut campaign on loan. But it looks increasingly likely that back-up keeper Aaron Ramsdale is on his way out.

The England international is keen to return to being number one but knows he will have to leave the Gunners to do so. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Arsenal transfer news.

Wonderkid set to sign

Arsenal have reached an agreement with Ajax to sign wonderkid goalkeeper Tommy Setford. The England Under-20 international has come through the ranks impressively at the Dutch giants and is highly regarded.

According to The Athletic, the two clubs have now agreed a £869,000 deal for the 18-year-old. Setford will now sign an initial four-year contract with the Gunners, following a summer-long pursuit.

Setford's arrival comes amid an overhaul among Arsenal's goalkeeping group. Ovie Ejeheri, James Hillson, and Arthur Okonkwo have all been released, while the Gunners have seen a bid for Wolves star Dan Bentley rejected.

Arsenal handed Gyokeres hope

Arsenal have been handed a major boost that they can win the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres. The striker enjoyed a stunning debut season at Sporting Lisbon, scoring 43 goals in 50 games to help them to win the Primeira Liga.

Despite only having been at the club for one year, interested suitors are already circling due to his impressive scoring rate. One of those clubs is Arsenal, with neither Gabriel Jesus nor Eddie Nketiah proving to be reliable goalscorers.

And their hopes of securing a deal have been boosted after Napoli, one of the other teams linked with a move for the Swede pulled out. When asked about the Italian side's chances of signing Gyokeres, sporting director Giovanni Manna told TuttoMercato : “Impossible.”

Ramsdale handed exit hope

Southampton are plotting a move for Aaron Ramsdale, with the goalkeeper edging closer to a departure from Arsenal. Ramsdale lost his place to David Raya last season and is not keen on being the Spaniard's back-up for another season.

According to The Sun, he could be handed a lifeline by newly-promoted Southampton. The Saints are said to keen to sign a top-level, experienced keeper for their return to the Premier League.

That has led them to Ramsdale, with a move expected following the conclusion of Euro 2024. Arsenal are willing to let him depart but will only sanction a permanent deal in the region of £30million or a loan move for the season.
