Arsenal are trying to clinch Mesut Ozil's early departure this month with the German's exile from the first team virtually certain to continue.
Ozil, it is understood, is finally open to leaving the Emirates Stadium.
The World Cup winner was not included in Mikel Arteta's Premier League or European squads for the opening half of the season and has not played for the club since March.
Intriguingly, a number of influential members of the Gunners squad and staff agreed with Arteta's decision to axe the German amid concerns over his commitment.
But the former Real Madrid playmaker's miserable spell at Arsenal is finally drawing to a close.
His contract, which is worth £350,000 per week, ends in July - but negotiations are underway from both parties to seal an early exit this month.
Fenerbahce are long-term admirers, and his coup would be viewed as a significant statement from club president Ali Koc given Ozil's Turkish heritage. A number of MLS clubs - including DC United - are also interested in Ozil.
The 32-year-old is highly unlikely to be included Arteta's revised squads for the remainder of the season, meaning Ozil - barring an unexpected change of heart - has played his last game for the club.
Ozil and his representatives have always been adamant that he would see out his current Arsenal contract before leaving on a free transfer.
But he has indicated to Arsenal that he is now prepared to go, with the club willing to pay a portion of his wages to seal his exit.
In an interview with ESPN, Ozil's agent Erkut Sogut said on Wednesday: 'I can't talk about the clubs directly because it would be unprofessional but generally, there is six months left on the contract and it is nothing unusual that we will talk to people about different opportunities and try to find the best option for Mesut.
'He might stay at Arsenal until the summer but he might go. Mesut's priority is to stay but you never know in football, things can change very fast. For the moment, we are just checking all the options for January and the summer.
'If we want to leave in January, I need to talk to Arsenal. If we sign for the summer, we don't need to. That's the situation. In the next seven to ten days, it will be a little clearer as now the transfer window is open, things can move faster.'
Arsenal chiefs are working hard on a clear out of the club's fringe players this month in an effort to release funds for Arteta to strengthen his squad.
William Saliba has already joined Nice on loan while goalkeeper Matt Macey was poised to join Hibernian on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are set to seal the signing of Omar Rekik. The deal will cost in the region of £450,000. The 19-year-old will centre back will initially join up with he club's Under 23s.
