Arsenal are due to face the La Liga champions next week as part of their pre-season tour of the United States

Arsenal's pre-season friendly against Barcelona is likely to go ahead as planned on Wednesday morning following an update from the La Liga champions.

A statement read: "The FC Barcelona first team players affected by a viral gastroenteritis, which forced the cancellation of the match against Juventus at Levi's Stadium, are recovering well. In the last few hours, no new cases have been detected.

"There are two training sessions scheduled for this Monday, when the majority of the affected players are expected to work out. The squad will then have another session before the match against Arsenal.

"The team is eager to make its debut here in the United States. Barça square off against Arsenal at SoFi Stadium this Wednesday."

He said: "Positives are that a test match, at this level, in this context gives you a lot of information. That’s always very positive. That information is that there are a lot of things to improve. How important the boxes are as always because if Martinelli put the two chances he has away we go 1-0 up and probably it would be a bit different.

"That errors are part of football and you have to overcome them as well. And a test to see as well how painful it is to lose a football match even if it’s a test match. I want to see those players hurting and then as well how the team reacts after a defeat which is a good test as well."
