2' GOAL! Real Madrid 1-0 Roma (Asensio)

BALE’S SUPERB PASS TO ASENSIO LEADS TO A GOAL! 1-0 Real Madrid!

Gareth Bale picks up the ball on the left-hand side and pings a superb outside-of-the-foot ball over the head of Marcano for Asensio who controls the ball with confidence before side-footing it past Olsen who did not take up a good position! Real break the deadlock in two minutes!

8'  Florenzi puts a cross into the box with Dzeko lurking, but the right-back gets his angles wrong and sends his delivery right to Navas who gratefully grasps it with both hands.

15'  GOAL! Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (Bale)

GARETH BALE MAKES IT 2-0! The right-winger latches onto a long ball played down the flank and cuts inside, beating Marcano in the process. From there, he sends Olsen the wrong way and tucks it neatly into the near corner! Real are in commanding control now!

27' Bale floats a ball into the penalty area but the cross is slightly too far for Benzema. Reguilon comes screaming down the left to get on the end of the loose ball, but Florenzi’s sliding tackle on the edge of the box removes the danger.

37'  BLOCKED! Marcano blocks Asensio’s strike at an open goal after Olsen parries the first attempt and runs himself into a team-mate. That is a goal-saving challenge which keeps it at 2-0.

HT: It has been a first half where quite literally, Real Madrid have dominated from the outset. The rain delay didn’t hinder Lopetegui’s side who broke the deadlock two minutes after kick-off through Marco Asensio – after a tremendous pass from Bale. The provider turned finisher for the Spanish side’s second after the right-winger latched onto a Carvajal pass and slotted it past Olsen.

61' VINICIUS OVER THE BAR! The young substitute’s first involvement is a shot directed at goal from the edge of the area. He slightly leans back as he hits it though and it sails over the crossbar.

73'  The referee blows for a hydration break as Nacho appears to be receiving treatment for an injury. Real Madrid are hoping that this is nothing serious, as they will be in European Super Cup action in just over a week.

79' Chance! Coric and Lorenzo Pellegrini get involved in a lovely one-two passing move which frees up a cross for Schick who is waiting, unmarked. The service is good but the Roma striker inexplicably nods the ball wide of the post!

83' GOAL! Real Madrid 2-1 Roma (Strootman)

Kevin Strootman makes it 2-1 with less than 10 minutes to play! The ball is not cleared properly by Real Madrid following a long throw-in from Lorenzo Pellegrini and it trickles all the way to the back post where Strootman is left unmarked. Could Roma do the unthinkable!?
