Ashley Cole is in talks over a possible return to English football with Derby County.

The 38-year-old is a free agent after leaving LA Galaxy and is in discussions with his former team-mate Frank Lampard over a possible move to the Championship club.

The full back has played more than 650 games at senior club level, during spells with Arsenal, Chelsea, Roma and LA Galaxy.

He won 107 caps for England and is a three-time Premier League winner. He has also won the Champions League and Europa League, as well as the FA Cup on seven occasions.

Asked earlier this season about the chances of Cole coming to Derby, Lampard said: 'I don't know. I know Ashley well. I haven't spoken to him on it, so it's a conversation I could easily have.

'We also have Max Lowe on loan at Aberdeen as a young left back who had a really good pre-season for us.

'So, again, one to consider over the next few weeks.'

Lowe is now expected to go back to Aberdeen if talks with Cole progress.
