Aston Villa will play European football for the first time in 13 years after they ensured their qualification to the Europa Conference League today, with a 2-1 win against Brighton.
Despite things heating up in the chase for seventh place, with both Tottenham and Brentford taking Villa right to the end of the season, Unai Emery's side have today shored up their standing in seventh place in the Premier League standings.
Douglas Luiz's pinpoint finish from inside the penalty area gave the hosts an early lead, inside the eighth minute of the match.
Villa were left holding their breath soon after, as Deniz Undav looked to have beaten Emiliano Martinez in goal, tapping the ball into the net to make it 1-1.
But the goal was disallowed after a VAR review with an offside in the build-up. Buoyed by the decision, Villa attacked once again and six minutes later Ollie Watkins scored their second, firing a low shot past Jason Steele to give Emery's side a 2-0 lead.
Brighton got one back just before half-time with Undav finding the net for the second time and it was once again set for a VAR review. And unlike the first time, this goal would stand with the Seagulls players jumping into the air in celebration.
