Aston Villa are leading the hunt to sign Tyrone Mings on loan from Bournemouth and hopeful of completing the deal on deadline day.

Eddie Howe will let the defender leave for the rest of the campaign for a £1million fee and Villa are in prime position.

Nottingham Forest have also registered a strong interest but look set to be disappointed. West Bromwich Albion had been in contention too while Frank Lampard said Derby had been priced out.

Mings is keen to join up with Dean Smith and get a run of games after experiencing a frustrating spell at Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old has suffered from injuries since joining Howe's side for £8m in 2015 and now wants to play after starting only two Premier League matches this season.

Villa see the 6ft 5in centre-back as a crucial addition in ambitions to mount a promotion challenge.
