PSG have slapped a £21m price tag on Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum as Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard eyes the former Liverpool man.

Wijnaldum only joined the French club in the summer after letting his Liverpool contract run down but is reportedly unhappy in Paris and wants to return to the Premier League.

In October, he told Dutch outlet NOS that he was 'not completely happy' with the role he had been given and those worries appear to have only gotten worse.

Now the 31-year-old is rumoured to be sounding out moves for the summer.

He is under contract in the French capital until 2024 but PSG are said to be willing to accept a fee of £21m for the player according to Spanish newspaper Sport.

One of the club's interested in acquiring his signature is Aston Villa who added a former teammate of Wijnaldum's, Philippe Coutinho, to their squad in January.

However, the Spanish outlet reports that Atletico Madrid currently lead the race for his signature.

If Wijnaldum did return to the league he would add to the 217 appearances he has made so far in the competition.

He received his first taste of Premier League football in the 2015/16 season as a Newcastle player before moving to Liverpool.

Wijnaldum spent five season on Merseyside and won the title as well as the Champions League.

The 31-year-old left the club in the summer of 2021 having made 179 appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side.
